Singles Ladder Rules

Sign Up and Organization

1. The season begins in May and runs to Labour Day. Sign up at the clubhouse anytime or e-mail the Ladder Coordinator (see below). There are 3 ladders: Mens, Ladies, Juniors.
2. The Juniors Ladder is open to all UTC Junior members under the age of 18 years as of December 31 of the previous year. Males and Females play on the same ladder. The Mens and Ladies Ladders are open to UTC members who are 13 years of age and above. An eligible Junior member could play on more than one ladder if desired.
3. Players who sign up are placed in groups based on time of entry and/or ability/age (juniors).
4. New players will be added to the ladder at the beginning of each month entering either at the bottom or at the discretion of the Ladder Coordinator.

   Ladder Challenges

5. Players are expected to play a minimum of 2 matches per month within their group. The Ladies Ladder and the Juniors Ladder will have 4-6 players/group depending upon number of interested players. The Mens Ladder will have 6 players/group.
6. Players who have failed to play a match in 2 consecutive months will be removed from the ladder.
7. If you are unavailable to play for a month or are injured, you will move down a group or be removed from the group. Please inform the Ladder Coordinator of extended absences or unavailability.
8. At the beginning of each month, new groups will be created. The top player and second player in each group may be promoted to the next group, the bottom player and second to bottom will be demoted one group. However, if a player is either very strong or very weak within the group, he/she may be promoted or demoted more than one group (at the discretion of the Ladder Coordinator).

   Rules Regarding Ladder Match Play

9. Tennis matches are one pro-set to 8 games (with sudden death at second deuce). The first player to win 8 games wins. At 7 all, a 12 point tie-breaker will be played. At the end of the allotted time, if the match is incomplete, the scores will apply as is with completed games if agreed by both players OR match can resume later if a court is available and it is agreed upon by both players. This should be established prior to the start of the match.
10. Players not showing, or arriving more than 15 minutes late are subject to default.
11. Points are awarded as follows:
    Win: 4 points   Tie: 2 points   Loss: 1 point   Default: 0 points
12. Players supply their own balls. Mens Ladder only: both players supply a new can of balls - winner takes new can, loser takes used can of balls.

    Scoring

13. Players are responsible for recording their scores on the bulletin board. Unrecorded scores are not counted. Indicate a "W" for win or an "L" for a loss if the match is incomplete, by the end of the allotted time.
14. All disputes are settled by the Ladder Coordinator.
15. Prizes will be awarded for Mens, Ladies and Juniors Ladder participants after Labour Day at the discretion of the Ladder Coordinators.
16. Updated ladder groups will be posted on the Web site and the bulletin board.

    Scoring Sample:

17. Susan (position 1) plays Sally (position 5) with a score of Susan winning 7 games (but time was up) and Sally winning 3 games. They determined prior to the match, what they were going to do if the match was incomplete by their allotted time. The "W" and the "L" assist the scorekeeper when tallying points at the end of the month. If this match was a tie at 4 all, indicate Tie with "T".
